2021 Captain’s Meeting for Professional Division ONLY

Dear Tournament Fishermen,

Captains meeting for professional division only:

In an effort to simplify things the captains meeting will be held on Thursday night June 3 at the Olcott Lions Club pavilion, Krull Park, Olcott New York . The meeting will get underway at 6 PM sharp. Hopefully we can get out by 7 PM. Please bring only the captain and if the captain is unable to attend please have a teammate available. This is a mandatory meeting. Please read the rules prior to coming to the meeting.

Remember that a Don Johannes a Pete D’Angelo memorial three fish, one fish derby will be June 3 this year, as well, and you must be registered by 6 AM the morning of the event ( if not before). Sign up is in the Wilson at Bootleggers or the Gas shack and in Olcott the Boat Doctors. Weigh In is at Bootleggers Marina and you must be in line by 3 PM.

2018 ProAm Results – Day 1

Day 1 of the Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Team Tournament out of Niagara County is in the history books. Leader after the first day in the Professional Division is Capt. Rich Hajecki with Yankee Troller, weighing in a 12-fish limit that scored 236.80 points based on 10 points per fish and a point per pound. Second place, less than 2 points behind is Capt. Tom Pearse and the Summer School squad with 234.90 points. Third place is Capt. Pete Alex and the Vision Quest crew with a score of 220.40 points. Fourth place is Capt. Matt Yablonsky’s Wet Net team with 213.32 points. Fifth place is Finders Keepers led by Tim Thomas with 211.47 points. Big fish for the pros was an 18.34 pound king weighed in by the Summer School team.
In the Amateur Open Division, James Spinelli and the Hound Dog team set the pace with a three fish score of 79.87 points, including the big fish for the division, a 22-pound king. Second place was Mother Moose with a score of 74.32 points, followed by Balls Deep 2 with 65.95 points and Mean Machine with 63.86 points.
The tournament continues out of Wilson and Olcott tomorrow, with weigh in to be set up by 1:30 p.m. in Krull Park.

]]> Niagara’s Skip Hartman Pro-Am Tournament Back to June 1-3 https://lakeontarioproam.net/niagaras-skip-hartman-pro-am-tournament-back-to-june-1-3/ Thu, 11 Jan 2018 20:41:05 +0000 http://lakeontarioproam.net/?p=1575 Niagara County’s Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon Team Tournament was the event that started the tournament craze on the lake 33 years ago. June 1-3 are the dates that are set for this year’s contest, held annually out of the ports of Wilson and Olcott. It should be bigger and better than ever this year.

Penny Lyman (Hartman), daughter of the tournament’s namesake – it’s called the Walter “Skip” Hartman Memorial Pro-Am Tournament – is going to be changing things up a little bit, going back to the way things were for the Professional Division. The tournament returned to a straight 12 fish contest each day last year (based on 10 points per fish and a point per pound under special tournament guidelines) and an observer from another team is on board to verify the catch.

The tournament will be returning back to a June timeframe and if the weather cooperates, the fishing dates will be June 1 and 2. If there is a bad weather day, June 3 will be utilized. “We are also going back to closed communications in 2018,” said Hartman, the tournament director. It’s been Open Communications for over a decade.

Also new this year is the fact that the tournament will be aligning with the Lake Ontario Championship Series. Last year, more than $50,000 in cash and prizes were handed out, making it one of the few tournaments that offers anglers more than 100 percent back from your entry fee money.

If you’d rather not fish with the big boys but still enjoy a competitive atmosphere, there is an Amateur Open Division that does not have a starting time stipulation, does not require observers and is simply a “best three” for the day. Each day is treated as a separate event and a special cup and check will be given to the team with the best two days combined. It’s a great way of getting started in the tournament fishing scene.

In the Pro Division, it was Team Maverick led by Capt. Chris LoPresti weighing in a 12 fish limit catch for a score of 258.40 points (based on 10 points per fish and a point per pound). Second place was Dave Antenori’s Screamer team with a 12 fish limit and a score of 251.60 points. Third place was Free Spirit led by Capt. Paul Czarnecki with a score of 240.90. Fourth place was Tale Tails and Capt. Brian Garrett with 221.10 points and rounding out the top 5, Wet Net led by Capt. Matt Yablonsky totaled 213.70 points. Big fish in the Pro Division was a 22.27 pound king salmon reeled in by Vision Quest and Capt. Pete Alex. 

In the Amateur Open Division, based on the best three fish (10 points per fish and a point per pound), Dipsy Ranger was in first with 76.86 for the day followed by Mother Moose with 75.75; Rod Benders with 74.07; and Gypsy with 73.79. Big fish for the day was a 19.43 pound king reeled in by Mean Machine and Kyle Hovak.
Day two was postponed due to a Small Craft Advisory that went into effect at 6:44 a.m. and is supposed to continue through 6 p.m. The Amateur Drawing for today’s prizes will take place at the Gas Shack at the Wilson Boat Yard at 5 p.m. according to Penny Hartman. Captain’s Meeting for Professional Division ONLY: In an effort to simplify things, the captain’s/observer’s meetings will be held on Thursday night May 18 at the Wilson Fire Company, 250 Young Street, Wilson where we held the meeting the last couple of years. Doors open at 5 pm; meeting is underway at 6 pm. Hopefully we can get out of there by 7 pm…bring only the Captain and Observer from your team. This is mandatory!

Remember that the Don Johannes and Pete DeAngelo Memorial Three-fish, One-fish Derby will be May 18th this year, as well,  and you must be registered by 7 am the morning of the event (if not before). Sign up in Wilson at Bootleggers or the Gas Shack; at The Boat Doc or the Slippery Sinker in Olcott. Weigh in at Clark’s Park and you must be in line by 3 pm.

Amateur Open Division teams do not need to attend the Captain’s meeting. However, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to stop by between 5 pm and 6 pm before the meeting starts. Pro-Am Series Challenge Cup Continues
Last season, the Lake Ontario Pro-Am formatted tournaments joined together to bring back the history, tradition and intense competition of the “Lake Ontario Challenge Cup.” This prestigious cup is awarded to the tournament team that displays consistency throughout the three Pro-Am “classic format” events, held at different times in different locations. This unique competition challenge will once again be available to Captains and teams fishing all three of these style events in Niagara, Oswego and Wayne counties in 2017. Highest point totals accumulated in the three contests combined will earn the Challenge Cup and the prize associated with it. Each of the tournaments (Niagara, Oswego and Wayne/Sodus) will be contributing $500 to the Cup payout. Teams must sign up for the Challenge Cup competition by the Captain’s meeting at the Niagara Tournament, located at the Wilson Fire Hall at 6 p.m. on May 18. The collector of the monies will be Matt LeClair, organizer of the Wayne County Tournament and the final stop on the Pro-Am Series trail. Scoring is simply based on your tournament scores for each event. Last year (2016), the Challenge Cup winner was once again Team Thrillseeker led by Capt. Vince Pierleoni of Newfane. It was his first Cup win in a decade, previously registering cups in 1995, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2006. A new travelling cup trophy has been started and will be passed along from year to year.

Mark those calendars and plan on another fun-filled contest for you competitive anglers. More information will be coming out soon. In the meantime, have a good rest of the season.

]]> 2016 Niagara Pro-Am / Day 3 Results https://lakeontarioproam.net/2016-niagara-pro-am-day-3-results/ Mon, 23 May 2016 00:44:51 +0000 http://lakeontarioproam.net/?p=1495 In the first 3 day Niagara USA Pro Am Tournament out of Wilson and Olcott, Shark Tank led by Capt. Greg Gehrig of Oswego set the pace in both the five fish Trophy class (391.15 points) and the 12 fish Classic Division (599.45) and earn the Niagara Cup in both – winning over $29,000 in the process. They also won the ITO flies big fish for the tournament with a 23.96 pound king salmon. Runner up in both divisions was Yankee Troller led by Capt. Rich Hajecki of Rochester. They scored 350.73 points in the trophy; 589.16 points in the classic – winning over $8,000. Third place in Trophy was Dirty Goose led by Capt. Casey Prisco with 341.21 points. 4th place was Team Thrillseeker led by Capt. Vince Pierleoni of Newfane with 338.05. Third place classic team was Thrillseeker with 505.72 points. Fourth was Free Spirit with 498.47 points led by Capt. Paul Czarnecki of Waterford, PA.

In the Amateur Open for Day Three, it was Mean Machine and Kyle Hovak of North Tonawanda taking the day with a 3 fish limit score of 80.10 points. They also had big fish, a 23.12 pound king salmon. However it wasn’t enough to win the Amateur Open Cup for the best two days of team totals combined. That was reserved for Anonymous led by John Muehl of Maryland, NY. He placed second on day 3 with a score of 78.46 points and also placed second on Day 2 with a score of 72.47 points. A total of 28 teams competed in the Amateur Open Division.
